Lee Shaun TzenTransforming community-based social support for adults |
Shaun has spent over a decade in the social sector, beginning at the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre, where he was part of the team that launched the giving.sg platform. He then served for eight years as the Managing Director of Project Chulia Street, a non-profit organisation that aims to improve the well-being of migrant workers in Singapore.
Shaun has been exploring the social mobility space with us, and has looked at ideas ranging from providing affordable and nutritious food, to debt relief and financial support, and to building livelihoods. Through ideating and refining approaches alongside the Foundation, Shaun will bring all these elements together in his project MakanBersama. MakanBersama seeks to bring people together over budget nasi padang meals, and form networks of trust and support to help Singaporeans overcome disadvantages and access opportunities including employment. Ultimately, he hopes to transform the way Singaporeans engage with and support one another.

We believe that asset-based and person-centred social support anchored in the community is essential to empowering individuals and strengthening communities. Under the PIR programme, we are working closely with Shaun to map out the landscape, engage potential partners, and validate approaches that could transform social support in Singapore.
