Raffles Scholarship Series
Raffles Institution (RI) has a time-honoured tradition of welcoming highly talented students from diverse backgrounds. To keep RI open and welcoming to all deserving students from all walks of life, we are partnering RI to help aspiring students from disadvantaged backgrounds to enrol in RI and live their Rafflesian experience to the fullest.
Complementing the Ministry of Education’s Independent School Bursary, the Raffles Scholarship Series is an integrated needs-based merit scholarship programme awarded at Primary 5, right up to Year 6. The initiative seeks to ensure that students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds are not deprived of a Rafflesian education and are able to participate fully in the whole range of activities along with their schoolmates.
We have worked closely with RI to design, co-fund and monitor the effectiveness of the Raffles Scholarship Series since its inception in 2015. Under this initiative,
- Primary 5 and 6 students from lower-income households who have done well in their studies may receive a scholarship award of S$1,000 a year and waiver of application fees for Direct School Admissions to RI.
- All Year 1 to Year 6 RI students with demonstrated financial need receive up to S$3,000 a year in addition to the school fee support they receive from the Ministry of Education.
The additional support to enrolled RI students from lower income families encourages them to make the most of their Rafflesian experience and provides financial support for their living, co-curricular and enrichment expenses. We also hope to give aspiring RI students with strong academic credentials the assurance that they would be able to fit in and maximise the opportunities available at RI, even if they come from families with more limited means. In the longer term, this would help to keep RI an inclusive and socially diverse institution, one that provides a vibrant learning environment for talented youths from all walks of life.
