Climate change is reshaping our world. It is not just an environmental crisis, but a generational challenge with lasting impacts on human development. Our collective future depends on the actions we take today.
Southeast Asia is one of the world’s most vulnerable regions to the impacts of climate change. Not only is the region experiencing rapid growth in greenhouse gas emissions, more than half its population is threatened by sea-level rise.
Yet, Southeast Asia holds some of the world’s most critical natural ecosystems, including peatlands and mangroves that sequester carbon at rates two to five times higher than other ecosystems. The region’s natural landscapes also provide vital ecosystem services, support livelihoods for millions, and enhance climate resilience.
To harness Southeast Asia’s immense potential for climate mitigation and strengthen community resilience to climate impacts, we catalyse impactful climate solutions in two critical areas in the region:
